It's Been a While

Well hello again. It would appear that I completely forgot to post any posts when things got hectic, but I've missed blogging and so I want to get back into the swing of things.

A New Me

When I was really badly depressed and anxious, I became obsessed with having long hair. It was like a security blanket that I often hid behind, and when I was walking though shopping centres or towns I would also hold a piece of hair in my hands to feel comforted. I decided that I wanted a change, and so yesterday I had my hair cut.

The Weekend Round Up #6

This past week I've had several 'bad day' and I must say that this weekend has been no exception. I'm have less of a bad day today, but that doesn't stop it from being a difficult day. I kind of wanted to do this post for my own personal reference when I'm having bad days and I'm in Canterbury and probably feeling rather homesick.

The Shock of the Fall by Nathan Filer

This is an absolutely stunning debut novel. I completely fell in love with the writing and the characters and I have had barely been able to put it down since I brought it on Thursday.

Anxiety Tips

As much as I hated going to therapy, there is no denying that it did help my anxiety a bit, and so I thought I'd share a few tips that have helped me along, and ones that I still use.

Moving To Canterbury?!!

Today is A Level Results Day, or judgement day as many of my friends started referring to it as. But all was good for me, because I managed to secure a place at my top choice university, Canterbury Christ Church. Which means in about a months time I shall be moving from the farm to the city. Literally for the first time ever.

I'm so excited, I've worked so hard to get there and it just shows that hard work pays off. However, results don't mean success. Even if you did get what you wanted you can still do something amazing and thoroughly enjoy yourself.

That's all for now,

Everyday Make Up Staples

Easy, lightweight make up is my staple for everyday. I'm lucky in that most of the time my skin is fairly clear so I can get away with not wearing a foundation or BB Cream on a daily basis. But these are my basic everyday make up staples.

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

(this is spoiler free for those who haven't read the book yet)

It's no secret that I like books. I possibly like books too much.

Em Takes On Croatia!

I haven't posted anything for ages and that's mainly because I've been to Croatia! Mainly Dubrovnik. Dubrovnik is absolutely beautiful, we stayed in a hotel which was right by the sea at Lapad Bay - which meant we had stunning views and were in such a good position for the beach.

Easy Peasy Macaroons

When I say macaroons, I don't mean the pretty pastel coloured ones you can make or buy from shops, I mean this kind of macaroon - one that is easy, less fiddly  but still really delicious.

The Weekend Round Up #5

Potential tennis spoilers if you haven't seen the Wimbledon finals yet!!!

Wimbledon. Two weeks of tennis, or two weeks when everyone in England is a huge tennis fan and eats lots of strawberries and cream. I can tell you, I'm one of those people. Sort of; i do have certain tennis players who I really like watching and so I do try to keep up with other Championships that they participate in, but Wimbledon is the one I watch the most. Partially because I really like the BBC coverage and partially because I think it's one of the few Championships where the whole tournament is shown on television here in the UK. Don't quote me on that one but I'm sure it's something like that.

My weekend has literally consisted of watching tennis and reading. I'll start with the reading because that goes into less detail, other than I finished the Call the Midwife book I was reading that I think I referred to in my last weekend round up, and I've now started on The Blair Years - which so far I'm thoroughly enjoying.

Now then, tennis. I tend to only watch the singles games, I'll watch the doubles but I mainly just keep up with the singles. Saturday was the day of the women's singles final, which was between Genie Bouchard and Petra Kvitova. The match was a very short game at only 55 minutes, but it was outstanding tennis so I did enjoy watching it, however I was a little disappointed at the result. I'd been followed Bouchard for the majority of the tournament and I really wanted her to win because I thought it would be the perfect ending to such a good performance throughout the past two weeks. Kvitova won 6-3 6-0 and huge congratulations to her, because it clearly meant a great deal to her and I think that she's a very gracious player and clearly felt about tennis in a very team oriented way. I've got high hopes for Bouchard though, and I'll be backing her a lot over the next 12 months!

Today was the men's singles final, between Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer. I think this was probably the most stressful match I've ever seen. The whole match was stupendously close, and was only won because of the ball hitting the net. I was backing Federer the whole time, because he's one of my favourite ever players and he just makes tennis look so easy. However, today wasn't Federer's day to make it his 8th Wimbledon title and Djokovic won 6-7 (7-9) 6-4 7-6 (7-4) 5-7 6-4. Djokovic isn't my favourite player, but I did think he's winners speech thing was nicely put.

So yeah, that was my weekend, I hope you've all had a great weekend and I'll be back later this week to explain the lack of posts for a bit.

The Weekend Round Up #4

I haven't done a weekend round up post for a while, mainly because I've had very boring weekends with literally nothing happening. I'd be lying if I said that I'd done something exciting or noteworthy over the weekend, which is why this is an extremely short post, but I thought I'd tell you a bit about the book I'm reading at the moment. I've been reading the Call The Midwife book by Jennifer Worth, the memoirs that the television series is based upon, and I am seriously loving the book. I think it's the kind of book that makes you thing an awful lot about how much life, living conditions, and treatment of women has changed in more modern times. Even if you haven't ever watched the programs, I strongly recommend this book, although I haven't finished it yet I have the feeling that it's going to be one of the most influential books I've read. As much as I love reading stories about made up characters and made up situations, books that make me think are one of my favourites - I think that books really have a kind of power that can completely change a persons outlook on life and how they view the world around around them, which ultimately can make people feel they are overall better human beings. I'm not saying that this book will be a completely turning point in your life, but if you like the programs or you like books that make you think, then is is definitely a read for you.

I'll be back with another post later in the week, but until then I hope you all have a wonderful time

The Fault In Our Stars - The Film

Yesterday I went to see The Fault In Our Stars film with one of my best friends. It was amazing, I can't explain how much I enjoyed it. As I explained in this post, the book is one of my favourite books of all time, and I had high hopes for this film that certainly weren't disappointed.

Fail Proof Cookie Recipe

Baking. One of the most therapeutic forms of cooking. There is something so satisfying about the fact that throwing some ingredients together then comes together to create something utterly delicious. This cookie recipe is my ultimate go to cookie recipe, it never fails and you can add whatever flavours you like.

Self Harm

I wanted to talk about self harm because it's something that is often associated with depression, but I don't think it's discussed enough. This post isn't about me trying to promote self harm as a good thing, I'm just trying to help people going through the same thing or give people a better understanding so they can help their friends and family if they need to.

The Weekend Round Up #3 The Book Thief

So I like reading. A lot. However I generally tend to strongly dislike the film adaptations of the books. I find that they don't stay true to the book very well, and by the end of it I just want to yell at the directors 'read the book'. Despite this, I was ridiculously excited to watch The Book Thief. I know this came out a while ago and I'm a little slow on the uptake by only just watching it, but  honestly, I loved the film.

The Weekend Round Up #2

This weekend hasn't exactly been the most fun filled weekend, nor the most productive of weekends, so I thought I'd talk about my leavers ball on Friday night for the most part of this blog post.

Feeling Nostalgic

Tomorrow is my last day of school. Ever. I just have to then completely four exams and then it's the summer holidays for me, but never again do I have a lesson or have to be in school - unless I want to fail my exams and decide to not turn up for some random reason. But the fact I'm actually leaving school didn't really seem real until today.

The Weekend Round Up #1

I've been thinking about it for a little while, as I have been revising and looking for as many distractions as possible, and decided that I'm going to post a little round up of my weekend, even I've pretty much been doing nothing. So here goes, the first weekend round up.

Life Favourites

When I was really ill, I was often told by my therapists to keep reminding myself of my favourite things about life or just favourites in the form of things I like. I still think about my favourite things in life when I'm feeling down to remind me of the things that make me happy, after all happiness for me is something that I've been striving for ever since I began recovering. So I'm going to share with you a few of my favourite things that make me happy.

Welcome :)

Well hello there *waves*, I guess I should introduce myself. I'm Emily, I'm currently 17 years old (although only until Tuesday) and I live in the East of England. I can't really say I'm new to blogging, I've tried it out before and I'm pretty much obsessed with tumblr, if you consider tumblr to be a blogging platform, but after reading Scarlett Curtis's blog, I've been inspired to start my own. Obviously this isn't going to be anything extraordinarily amazing, but I just like the idea of having somewhere to type my thoughts and also what I've been up to recently, as a little online journal for myself as I'm growing up and beginning to become more independent.

I have been recovering from depression and anxiety for the past two years, which has seemed like an impossible uphill task, although now I've come sort of accept it. The medication I'm taking has really helped me gain some control in my life, which has not only helped me regain confidence in actually doing things and leaving the house, but I also feel more motivated to follow my dreams and go to university.

I'm much more positive than I have been in what seems like forever, so please join me in this adventure of recovery, makeup, books, cooking and learning to love myself.

Catch ya later
