Dealing With Anxiety | Mental Health

Anxiety is a difficult thing to deal with, mostly because it can be difficult to know how to talk to people about it, and also because to help anxiety going into anxiety inducing situations can be the best thing.

The first thing that I found helped me to deal with anxiety was accepting that I have anxiety. For some this may be more difficult that others, but once you've accepted that certain situations are going to make you anxious it's so much easier to build a system of dealing with it.

I like to make sure I know exactly what I've got to do at an event, and even before and after the event so I can keep going through a checklist in my mind to help me focus more. This is often simple things like planning my hair, make up and outfit in advance.

Currently I try not to do things that make me anxious alone, this might sound pathetic but if I do get anxious or have a panic attack it can often feel very lonely. Having someone with you, especially someone who knows about anxiety can really help if I do get really anxious but also to kind of provide a security net whilst I'm out.

Next is an App that has really help me. It's called Pacifica and helps you to track your mood and any feelings or situations associated with it, as well as meditation, positive daily thoughts and experiments on dealing with your anxiety. I'ts a really personal way of helping with your anxiety, and because it tracks progress and things you can see yourself improving in certain situations, which is really empowering.

Hope these tips help

  1. I'd say I'm quite an anxious person, I always work myself up on the lead up to events which normally results in me staying at home instead. Although I have found since I started working and interacting with people on a day-to-day basis, my confidence has really improved (despite the odd panic attack here and there, nothing major). I find stepping out of my comfort zone once a month has helped me a lot and when I am feeling particularly anxious I'll sit down for a few minutes and listen to music :)

I think you've pretty much summed anxiety up well :) and it's great that you're able to provide tips x
