There, I said it. I don't like Valentine's Day. Now I'm not a bitter singleton, jealous of people in relationships. I'm in a relationship, I just don't like Valentine's Day.
In all honesty my dislike for Valentine's probably is routed in the fact that my parents never really did Valentine's when I was growing up. Occasionally there might be some flowers a few days before or after, but nothing significant like what seems to be expected nowadays.
Valentine's Day just seems to be about spending lots of money to show that you love someone, when I don't really understand why there has to be a specific day to love someone. I just see it as capitalism honestly; a way to get even more money out of consumers. There are so many different restaurant deals to spend money, expensive cards, specific Valentine's gifts, the list goes on. And all of it is just money money money.
Obviously, I love my boyfriend, I just don't see the need to throw money about to show that love. Firstly, I'm a student, I don't really have the money for all the fancy things associated with Valentine's day, but secondly and most importantly, love has no monetary value and I certainly don't have enough money to equate to how much I love a person.
If you love someone, show them your love every day, not just on the specific day printed in your calendar.
What are your thoughts on Valentine's Day?
Em xx
