The Round Up #8

Hello hello, time for another Sunday catch up where I'll be sharing all things I've been reading, watching and listening to recently.

Reading

I absolutely flew through The Rumour by Lesley Kara recently. It's her debut novel that will keep you guessing until the very end with all the twists throughout. Set in a sleepy seaside town, a rumour that a child killer is living in their town under a new identity emerges amongst a group of Mums. The odd comment here and there later and the rumour has spread all over town and leaves them all guessing who is at the heart of the rumour. When I say this kept me guessing until the end, it really did! It was one of those reads where once I had finished I had to have a moment to just mull it all over.

I finally got round to reading Normal People by Sally Rooney and completely loved it. I thoroughly enjoyed Conversations With Friends so was keen to read Rooney's second novel and it really didn't disappoint. It follows Marianne and Connell and their rather complex relationship through school and university. The pair cross paths at various points through university, and it was really interesting to see their friendship and relationship develop through the different stages of their lives. Well worth the hype.

Another book that's been doing rounds on bookstagram is An American Marriage by Tayari Jones. Winner of this years Women's Prize for Fiction, this certainly did not disappoint. The novel follows the marriage of Roy and Celeste and the trials and tribulations that play out once Roy is wrongly convicted of rape. It's a thought provoking book of love, racism, loyalty and justice, and comes highly recommended my many.

Watching

Because of all the reading I've been doing, I haven't been watching too much. However, my flatmate and I have been cracking out the cheesy films on Netflix for cosy evenings. And of course, weekends are complete with Strictly bake on screens again.

Listening To

I'm very much into listening to podcasts whilst I'm pottering about, and whilst I'm a lover of a political podcast, it's the chatty ones that I've really been enjoying recently.

As a lover of The Office US how could I not mention the Office Ladies podcast?! Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey aka Pam and Angela from the Office are talking all things behind the scenes in this rewatch podcast. Each episode is of an episode of the show and I'm already looking forward to the chats about the Dinner  Party episode!

One of my favourite book bloggers, Read With Amy, has launched a podcast! All Things Bookish is exactly what it says on the tin - a podcast discussing all things book related. The first episode was an interview with another wonderful book blogger and insatagrammer, Amy Buckle's Bookshelf. It was really interesting hearing about Amy got started with the world of bookstgram and blogging, as well as a few reading recommendations thrown into mix.
